Evaluating Compost from Digestate as a Peat Substitute in Nursery for Olive and Hazelnut Trees

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study deals jointly with three aspects of environmental, agricultural and energy sustainability: (a) Biogas is a booming source worldwide, resulting in an increasing production digestate, its main by-product; (b) The extraction peat, mainly used for nursery substrates, being banned due to the destruction natural habitats release GHGs; (c) Compost can represent replacement peat contributes containment GHGs. has verified how compost obtained from digestate be as substitute sector. While previous studies have evaluated use on just one species at time, this compared same two very different species: olive tree hazelnut tree, both growing interest new plantings. Two concentrations potting substrate seedlings were evaluated: 30% 45% by weight, measuring effect some growth parameters during season. trials showed responses positive substantially negative hazelnut: trees manifested better compost, opposed hazelnut, where addition worsened all parameters. A general conclusion drawn: sector, replace but almost never 100 percent, having instead calibrate percentage according characteristics individual edaphic needs plant species.

Using Scrap Tires in EAFs as a Substitute for Carbon

EAF plants normally consume coal and coke as reactants, alloying elements, or fuel. The price of these materials varies from € 0.20-0.35/kg. This is while nearly 10 million pieces of tires are annually discarded in Iran. The present study shows that scrap tires can be used as a substitute for coal and coke in EAF plants. Thirteen grades of steel including low, medium, and high carbon steels as ...
